Reflections of the Dream

Today marks another opportunity for us to observe one of the greatest men who walked the planet. Martin Luther King, Jr. He was great in a way that most people run away from. He was great in sacrifice. He was great in courage. He was great in service to Humanity. Although he was great, he wasn’t perfect. He was extremely human. There was many speculations about his private life, that are very questionable. He was a man that carried a heavy burden which caused anxiety and frustrations. However, in the midst of what could be seen as inconsistencies, God has honored the cause of his life, way beyond his death. This should be encouraging to you, because if God can use him. I know God can use you. In no way do I condone any of the speculated inconsistencies, nor does this give us a license to do whatever we want, but Martin Luther King, Jr.was an example of God’s strength magnified in our weaknesses.
Dr. King’s life challenges all of us to look deep within our soul to discover a meaning for our short lives on this earth. A meaning that is so strong that we would die to fulfill it.
I submit to you that if a man hasn’t discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.
- MLK, Jr.
The Path of Meaning
Dr. King has blazed a path for all of humanity to find the depth of the life that God has given us and live it to the fullest. We cannot accept anything less than this. I know you look into the mirror of your soul and all that you can see is your limitations, inabilities and lack. I know it seems like you will never be about anything in your community, job, or home. Stuck in the rat race. If you find yourself in this place, stop and ask yourself. Self? What is it that is making me feel this way, and I can almost guarantee you that you will come to the same conclusion that I came to. LACK OF VISION. My lack of vision for my life and the world around me was the deterrent that was holding me back. Suffocating me and leading me down the path of mediocrity.
Vision: The Fuel For Finding Meaning
The moment a vision given by God enters your heart, your life and the world around you takes on a whole new meaning. When the scales are taking off of your eyes, is the moment you can truly begin to live. When the vision for life and freedom overtake you not even being behind bars can stop the movement that is taking place in your internal world. This is the motivation behind this blog space.
To challenge myself and others to look at our self and and the world around us with a different set of eyeballs. 2008 is definitely a pivotal year for our nation, and you can hear this cry for change in the under current of politics , religion, and even the corner barbershop. Everybody is talking about change. Change cannot take place unless you change internally first. We must look for opportunities to creatively engage internal change, so that our inner worlds will shape our outer worlds. When Coretta Scott King finally came to the decision that she was going to marry Martin, she said, that she knew that she was not marrying the man, but his vision.

Before I read your tribute to MLKJ I had the thought “stop living behind the facade of perfection.” As I read your tribute you made a comment about King not being perfect and that stood out to me because he did not allow his imperfections to get in the way of a vision of this nation. Nor did he allow his imperfections to get in the way of him actively pursuing that vision. Often times we try to build up the character before we take on a mission but I think in the pursuit of a mission your character is transformed. So the key is pursue the mission, pursue the dream, seek for the vision to be made reality and in turn you will see a change take place in your life and in the lives of those around you.

For every person who has ever fought against oppression. The untold stories of every person who has ever had a dream for freedom and equality. Martin Luther King is and still will be in the hearts of those who cry for freedom. Martin Luther King lives indeed, because he is with God Almighty. He is free atlast.
