Love Hurts, So Love Hard

January 24, 2008 · 1 Comment

This just might hurt a little. Love hurts sometimes when you do it right. Don’t be afraid of a little bit of pain, pleasure is on the other side. Let down your guard and you’ll be safe in my arms.

-John Legend “Save Room”

I don’t know exactly what female Mr. John Legend was singing this to, but when I heard this song as I was listening to it over a hot cup of hot chocolate. I could not help but continue to rewind that part until I got every word, because a nugget of truth leaped out about these lyrics. When entering into a “love relationship”, you cannot go into it blind of the potential of pain, and drunk on the emotional pleasure that love also comes with at times. It’s almost as if love is not complete without the process of pain, its crazy though how when you embrace the pain of loving someone could bring, your love for them grows deeper. It’s like pain makes more room for love to flow in your heart. It also made me reflect on God’s love for us, the pain that he experienced through his Son, deepened the love that He has for us. The more pain He suffered the harder he embraced the cross, until His very death. That’s why the wedding vows say, “til death do us part.” Everyday is a new day to love deeper, because one thing is true we all are going to part from this earth one day.

In Brief:

Love hard and appreciate every moment cause every aspect of love is meaningful, even when it hurts.

Thank you for this message. I’m going through some pain in my relationship which I believe is based on my love for him. Thank you for relating it to Christ. I really gives me perspective.
